My name is Laina, and this blog is where I talk about the things I do to manage a healthy weight after losing 200 lbs through diet and exercise, and how I’ve been successful so far. At the age of 25 I weighed 400 pounds, and over the course of 4 years I managed to lose 200+ pounds through diet and exercise alone. I’ve kept it off ever since through a combination of diet, exercise, constant vigilance, meticulous planning and sheer determination. Maintaining a healthy weight is a job I’ll be doing for the rest of my life, so I need to pay attention to it every day. This blog is a place where I can keep a record of the things that worked (and didn’t work) on this lifelong journey.
I’m not a professional nutritionist, I have a regular desk job like lots of people do. But I have kept off 200 pounds since 2003, making me that extremely rare (some would say mythical) bird – somebody who has maintained a significant weight loss long-term.
I’ve been interviewed by Woman’s World magazine for a story about meal replacement (aka shake-based) diets. In addition to this blog, I’ve written many articles for for GetYourFitTogether, tackling health-related topics from a wide variety of angles.
I’ve been featured by the HMR program. I lost my last 100 pounds with HMR, and credit my participation in their maintenance program for giving me many of the tools I rely on to this day. Here is one of my HMR ads – Just another success story.
And finally, you may have heard me on Fit 4 Life Radio as a featured guest. I’ve also written as a guest blogger on many several weight management and weight loss sites.
Naturally I have strong opinions on the topic of weight loss and maintenance, and readers of this journal will be subjected to them on a regular basis. This is not because I think anybody must or should follow my advice – frequently it is simply a reminder to myself, as maintaining any kind of lifestyle change requires constant vigilance. It never gets easy, but it can become a habit.
So those are my credentials – I’ve been walking the walk and talking the talk for a heck of a long time.
Here are some pics of my journey – the first one taken in 1998 at close to my highest weight, then me when I first achieved my goal weight, and a pic of me today. I’m working hard every day at keeping off those 200 pounds.
