Three Days In

Today is day three of my new “Stop Acting Like Treats Are Part of My Daily Diet” program and so far it’s working out pretty well.

It’s amazing how insidious the little treats were, they managed to creep in, little bites throughout the day – a small snack in the morning between breakfast and lunch, one in the afternoon (but it’s just a latte – I’m drinking it! Oh, and some popcorn – popcorn’s like nothing, right?), and a little something sweet after dinner, hardly anything really…

They really add up. Even if they don’t seem like much of anything individually, by the end of the day I was consuming almost 1/3 more than I should have been for the whole day!

And it’s not like I have to completely eliminate eating at those times, I just need to replace the junk things I was eating with supportive foods like fruits or veggies. Easy enough, and half the time when I contemplate the available options I find I’m not actually really and truly hungry – I just wanted a treat. Hmm. NO!

    I need to tighten it up, too… I’m getting loosey goosey about my no-grain-no-sugar restriction. Just because a Larabar (as an example) doesn’t have any grain or sugar, doesn’t mean it doesn’t have abuncha calories and carbs. I can have a tea with a little non-fat milk and some stevia instead of a latte and once I’m drinking it, feel *just* as satisfied (most days). I can have an orange instead of a Larabar and feel *just* as satisfied (most days). I can have some veggies instead of the popcorn and feel *just* as satisfied (most days).

    I’m glad your new plan is working well for you. I have to change things around periodically to keep myself interested in the process of maintenance.

    I totally agree with you and Kaaren. Right now hot decaf tea is working well for me at night and replacing a snack. If I’m “really” hungry, I’ll go ahead and have the snack. đŸ™‚

    It’s really too bad that the IF didn’t work out for you… It’s a super-simple theory. But, migraine triggers are a Bad Thing ™!

    I’m still finding interesting things about my new body & how to keep it. You and I are really close to the same size, but our processes are so very different!
    I try to not eat wheat or processed sugar anymore. I still eat some grains, but mostly stick to quinoa or brown rice. I also keep my fruit intake fairly low. I just seem to work better on a lower-carb/higher-fat diet.

    I found that running a cup of coffee with a tablespoon or two of coconut milk creamer through my Magic Bullet blender, makes it all frothy like a latte. With a fraction of the calories/fat!
